How To Add Boho Style Pieces To Your Wardrobe Without Going Full-Pelt-Hippy

If you're anything like me nailing that "I woke up like this" boho thing is a life goal. I have spent an alarming about of time pinning, saving and bookmarking images of girls who have their tee shirts just so, skirts perfectly floating and backy-hair perfectly loose curled. In the real world I need to face the facts; I'm a short, curvy girl who needs, erm, assistance with anything a t shirt bra doesn't work with. I sadly was not blessed with those lithe limbs that look good framed by a bin bag; I need to think before I make a purchase. That said I was somewhat desperate to get some bits that softened my "look" ...

That said, my inner hippie needs to come out. There are some websites that just do not work for me. One of the ones I'd assumed fitted into that bracket was Free People. I'd long admired their newsletters and Instagram page, silently fuming that none of it would ever suit me. Then, this shirt (the one in this post) came up and I thought "heck, I'm going for it." I kind of wish I'd never bought it (as does my non-existant bank manager) because it fits perfectly. It's led to several purchases and a wish list the length of my street...

It looks great with denim, it's suitably smart for evenings but works for day time. Whats more, it's opened up my eyes a world of boho-possibilities. I've realised, as I have said many times before, the important thing is stick to the sizes and shapes you know you feel good in. For example; I'm not a fan of short skirts. With all the will in the world and no matter how beautiful a short skirt is, or how much I want it - buying it is pointless I'll lack confidence and dodge group photographs whenever I wear it. Quite frankly, life is too short - am I right?

Sadly, as a reflection of the current state/feeling of influencer marketing I'd like to add that I am neither sponsored or tactically motivated to write about Free People. In fact, my emails to their head office have been ignored - which is fine, the pressure of getting sent stuff and then having to post within a certain time frame doesn't really work for me with my day job... You may have seen on Instagram that I've posted about doing less on the blog now. I'm hoping it'll be a "less is more" situation. I love blogging, and it's not like I won't do paid-for things (I'd be an idiot not to take up projects that fit) but finding the time is a bit tough these days. So expect more "I actually went to the shop and bought this and here are my thoughts" posts from me. Gone are the days of standing in the street eating a yogurt for money - longer term readers will get what I mean...

Any way, back to Free People. Now, this website can be a bit odd price wise. Having done some digging, they buy a lot of their stock in rather than designing it themselves meaning price points vary. For example there is a grey Rolling Stones tee on there at the moment that's £68. For a frigging band tee? Nah.

But, that said some of their blouses and dresses are gorgeous and it's my go-to place for holiday pieces. I've put a few of my favourites in the widget above (if you've got an ad-blocker on, you wont see it). As indicated by the title of this post the pieces I pick are ones that look good with stuff I already have. In my mind there is nothing wrong with jeans and a nice top - being Basic Becky is actually fine; as long as it all fits you and comes together. Nobody ever slagged off someone for wearing a well fitting, happy-feeling outfit  (and if they did, they're a pr*ck so don't even worry).

As you can see from this, the blouse has been a triumph as it goes with so much I already have (everything else in this post is old, I've done my best to link to them below the pictures but some just don't exist any more). I wear the shirt constantly with denim - black and blue (and white; it's summer so the Lady Di's come out) as well as smarter work trousers; it looks really good with fitted black trousers. Not too see through, I've got my skin-coloured bra on here. All in all, I love it, and fully recommended Free People as a starting block to loosening up a standard, static wardrobe.

This is a standard footer on all blog pieces; some links used in this post may be created with an affiliate tag meaning I will receive a small % of any purchases made as a result of clicking on them. This does not make any price difference for you, the consumer.
