Side Striped Trousers

Phew, that disgusting weather is done with. Don't get me wrong I loved the snow... For about an hour. After that I was wishing it away as early morning walks with a stubborn, grumpy, cold dog just were not pleasant and I spent the whole week in either leggings or my pyjamas. Ridiculously given that I live in London, I was snowed in. My street is on a really steep slope and wasn't gritted so getting anywhere was a nightmare. How I didn't fall on the second day of it when trying to get to the tube is beyond me....

Any way, what the poor weather has done for me is encourage me to make more of an effort with my wardrobe this week. I'm trying to lure myself out of jeans, especially during the week. Work is starting to require me to be a little bit smarter so slowly but surely I'm re-introducing the idea of heels and smarter dresses. This outfit is a half way house. No jeans; still trainers but arguably smarter ones tan my usual beaten-up versions and a total win of a jumper I found at Marks and Spencer (it may have sold out now as it was in Elle magazine - here is the link, and it also comes in cream here).

I'd wanted to give the striped trouser thing a go for a while but was a bit lost on how to approach it. I've done the rounds of the adidas tracksuit pants before (showing my age) and didn't want to look like a member of a Spice Girls tribute band. I found these from And Other Stories and instantly fell in love with them. Like a few other influencers, I'm lucky enough to work on a retainer with the company which means I get to choose a couple of pieces each month - so picked them out as part of my February allowance.

Have to say, they're a total win. I was looking for a pair that weren't too casual and these are a tailored  fit so smart enough for work (they also have an elasticated strip on the back which is great). Length wise, I thought they'd be too long for me (I'm 5 foot 5 with quite short legs) but they actually fit really well... I'd have bought these if I hadn't been given them, for £59 I think they're really good. Find them here.

This kind of outfit is really good for the days when I'm anticipating being in the office all day, but may have to pop out and see someone. It's certainly not super smart (though if I brushed my hair a little more it may look better, sorry) but it'll do - and I feel super confident in the trousers - they're surprisingly flattering. As a total side, when I was putting this post together I spotted that And Other Stories have a mid season sale on - it's quite good and up to 50% off. Have a look here
