Mango Stripe Dress

Last week was a total wipeout. Anyone else struggled with the heat!? Despite fans, prehistoric air conditioning machines, ice baths and too many Magnums to mention, I completely lost all ability to concentrate on work. Fortunately this coincided with most of my favourite stores going into sale. So I went shopping.

I mentioned on my Stories that I was a little bit excited about the Mango sale. I was freakishly organised with my approach, adding to basket and bookmarking all the things I wanted to make sure I was first in line. The first thing I purchased was this dress. It's everything I look for in a hot weather outfit. No bra required, flattering elastic in the middle, halter neck (great for slimming your arms) and most importantly; blue, white and striped. It was already super reasonable at £39 but it went down to £29 in the sale. I've got the size small and could probably have worn a size down in it as it's very stretchy and roomy. Find it here.

Boo Hoo Floral Shirt

product links (click to shop) = shirt, Boohoo at ASOS (sold out so similar) / trousers, J Crew / bag, Saint Laurent / shoes, L.K.Bennett (in the sale) / coat, Joules (just seen)

It's a little bit hot isn't it!? Understatement of the century, London is sweltering. I've been going back and forth on the tube watching people in suits and just wishing them good luck in my head. How do you do it!? Saying that, I've been trying to look a bit smarter in the week for the office and in doing so have realised quite how tough it is, and how bleak the options are for you all. All of a sudden I have to think about things like hem length, bare shoulders... Argh. I've decided the way forward is big, bellowing shirts like this one which I stumbled upon from the most unexpected brand...

Ok so here are the things I love about this shirt; it's oversize (I bought a size 8 which is a size down) and makes me feel really little inside it, It's got puffed up sleeves which make my arms look skinner (maybe in my head but still, it's a thing), the flowers make it less boring than an average shirt. Lastly, it was £20. Things I don't like about it; it sold out in a heartbeat (sorry)! But I did manage to find some really good alternatives...

Particular shout outs go to Warehouse's option here and this £20 one from Pretty Little Things. Now on to the rest of the outfit...

I do need to properly talk about my trousers, which are from J Crew here. They're their Martie pants which come in an assortment for colours some of which are in their sale right now. A friend told me about them over breakfast as a much needed staple in her work-day wardrobe. I struggle with fitted trousers; I have quite a big bottom for my size and often feel self conscious. These are great. I've worn them religiously since they arrived, can't recommend them enough.

Shout out for my utility jacket too as it's been a failsafe so far this year (over my bag in the photos). I wear it on weekends with all the obvious dress-down attire but it also looks great with shirts and smarter trousers. I find it really tricky not looking too corporate and this jacket does it for me. I found it at Joules when I did a campaign with them earlier in the year and I think it'll be with me for a while (also is great as a base layer under coats when it's gets colder again).

I bought the bag from Bicester Village at the beginning of the year having hankered after it for months. Followers of my Instagram will know I take ages over these luxury purchases so I was amazed when one turned up at Bicester for just over £400. They come up on Vestiaire Collective quite a lot, here is a good example.

Lastly, my shoes. These are from L.K.Bennett and they're perfect for my new found need for work/play outfits. With a low block heel they get me off the ground (much needed when you're 5 foot 4) but also don't kill my feet. I can run around in them all day and that says a lot with my feet which are very, very sensitive. I'd never have thought of pink shoes before either but they lift my outfits quite a bit without being an "in your face" statement shoe, which I don't want. They're in the sale too I believe, find them here.

River Island Lace Top

I blogged earlier in the year about my newly restored love for River Island. Going to be honest it took some convincing as their site makes me nervous with all the bangles and tummy-bearing neon stuff. If it wasn't for ASOS' well edited select (here) there is absolutely no way I'd have stumbled upon some of the things I've found. In truth, I'd forgotten I'd shot these photos as it all got a bit crazy before Zanzibar. Then yesterday I walking down South Molton Street (obviously) and saw a top in the window of Browns that - no joke - is exactly the same as this River Island one, but £755. Win.

The Summer Sales

Right, this year I thought I'd do sale shopping properly on the blog. No mucking about! As all the sale dates start at different times I thought the easiest way was to group into sections and if any other sales come in at a later point to do a round up of them underneath it. Hope it works and do let me know if you make a purchase, tag it with my Instagram handle here.

Fathers Day Gifts With Mr Porter

When I think of Fathers Day the obvious gift ideas come up. The socks, the golf shirt - the whisky you aren't entirely sure is right but cost enough to seem impressive. I decided this year I was going to think outside the box and get Dad something he'd actually really value (and Gus as Lopez really needs to say thanks for all the walks) . Handily Mr Porter got in touch and asked me put together some presents. I'd never explored their gifts section before but after finding this lot it's become my go-to places for bits for boys...

Other Stories Gingham Top

Followers of my Instagram already know that I spent last week in Zanzibar at The Residence. I'd wanted to go since a press breakfast with the hotel a year ago, so finally arriving felt incredible. I'd only ever been to South Africa before but my parents and sister had been (and travelled quite a lot of East Africa) and cited it as their favourite place. Have to say I agree, and I'll be posting lots of content  from there over the next few weeks. Here I am on our first evening..

To explain the bike, the hotel is made up of individuals villas spread out across the coast so you need to cycle to get about. We shot this on the way to our first dinner on the island which was really rather special. We ate fresh lobster on the beach with little lights hanging from the palm trees (and drank all the bubbles).

This is a typical "me on holiday" outfit. I'm not really a "dressing up for dinner" person so I look for comfortable pieces that'll work over and over again. I try to let the accessories be the interesting part... I do love a fancy earrings and this mismatched pair (the other ear has a gorgeous gold pineapple charm) are from Net A Porter, a gift as part of their #jetaporter campaign here. The shorts were a star buy from ASOS before I left, here. They're from Levi and I went a size up which was lucky because I had to pour myself into them. However it's totally worth it as (with all Levis) once I'd worn them for an hour they stretched to exactly how I wanted them. I wore them constantly whilst I was there and know I will at home too... Find them here

Now, the gingham top. I've actually has this for a while and have been meaning to post about it for ages. It's from Other Stories which has my favourite summer collection so far (discover it all here, and also check out Whistles here which is a close runner up for the title). Quite a few of us bloggers have it and for good reason; it ticks so many boxes in terms of current trends but is so damn comfortable. It's also fabulous for big feeds as it hides a multitude of greed-based sins. Find it here.

Gingham is most definitely having it's moment and this isn't the first piece I've succumbed too. You'll see quite a lot of it on the blog in the next few months as I just ordered in a lorry load. I've had this ASOS jumpsuit ages ago but have been waiting for the right weather. Above is a list of my favourite bits - this dress is firmly on the list and plan to wear with a shirt under in the week and with denim jackets and sliders on weekends.

Carrying on the whole "punchy accessories" vibe, the shoes were an unusually spontaneous purchase from Zara the week before we went, here. I rarely buy shoes from them as they aren't always the best for my feet (I'm being kind; Zara shoes have been known to skin my hooves to death leaving me unable to walk for days on end) but these have been great. I'm really excited to wear them with a new maxi dress I just ordered from The Outnet (here if you can't wait for the inevitable Instagram) which is blue and white striped. Only other thing I'd added would be pair of oversized sunnies, and maybe the market-bag from J Crew here, as pictured in this outfit.

You'll see a lot more of my holiday style posts on the blog in the coming weeks, but a few will be Instagram only so do make sure you give me a follow here. Changing the subject massively, but I feel as a Londoner I can't not mention the attack last weekend. We arrived back from an incredible holiday in an incredible (Muslim) country to news that extremists had stormed London Bridge, killing and injuring over 50 people. I am just so sorry to all those affected, but lets not let this stop us. I hope you and your loved ones are well and that this brings more people together than it does tear people apart.

These photos were taken at The Residence Zanzibar, who kindly hosted us. Photographs taken on the Olympus PL7 here their 45mm lens here.
