I really should be calling this post, 'An Ode To My Friend, Sarah' because as soon as I spotted this little trend at the New York shows I thought straight of her and her love of all things harnessy. Not in an OTT way, but she's been sporting some fabulous pieces, such as this Lacivicious one here for ages. Without a doubt, she will be my inspiration here as without her help I'm going to look like a tragic Christian Grey victim/hopeful. Sarah manages to do it in a way that smacks all possible reference to anything 5-0 out the court and into a sophisticated and classy look. Any way, enough girl-gushing and onto the post...
The first show I spotted the look in was BCBGMAXAZRIA, who paired the look with all this black and white (with orange hints, another big trend). The cross body harnesses mix surprisingly well with delicate sheer fabrics and lace and for me, showed how you could easily 'do' the look with a simple outfit combined with a basic harness.
Herve Leger By Max Azria SS13
I suppose it should be no surprise that the fashion house responsible for 99% of the skin tight 'body wrap' dresses would try a borderline-bondage look, so when Herve Leger's SS13 hit the runway the presence of harnesses seemed pretty logical. Paired up with their nude and black pieces and heavy leather shoes, Max Azria's collection for the house takes the sex appeal up a notch.
Jason Wu SS13
Lastly a designer who's collections just get better and better; Jason Wu. I'm probably very late onto this, but Wu's dresses are just amazing. Arguably the man who put the peplum trend firmly into place, he also embedded the harness-look into SS13 with his gorgeous sparkly dresses featuring the look. I loved the simplicity of his pieces - especially the ones without the cross-chest fixtures - definitely a look I'm going to give a go next summer, if not sooner.
