Vegetarians look away, because AW12 ain't your season. Fur was everywhere! Didn't really take a particular theme either, was just EVERYWHERE. It did'n't seem to matter where you wore it, as long as you were wearing it... Lots of outer jackets and coats - though some designers like Monique L'Huillier used the fabric for her office-type dresses! Rachel Roy had cute little sixties fur hats (love) and DKNY used it alongside leather to give an almighty 'authoritarian' type look.
It wasn't all black, though lots of it was - browns and taupe tones were also popular. Those poor minks better get hiding... Timo Weiland, Dennis Basso, Theyskens Theory and Carmen Marc Valvo all used this palette with their fur pieces - and as much as I am against it in principle - you can't help but marvel at the luxury of the coats and stoles.
One little trend I noticed from NYFW was the surge of orange gilets type styles - they were at Dennis Basso, Preen, Rachel Roy and Phillip Lim (below). They were all furry too, which was another look that featured in pretty much every collection. I guess this started in Italy last year - orange stoles were a big part of Prada's AW11 look. So, if you're buying a coloured fur/faux fur this year - buy orange.
