Rosie Huntington Whiteley for Harpers Bazaar

I spotted a couple of pictures on thehartblog yesterday and decided to delve deeper.  Gosh this woman is gorgeous.  I think I'm going to use these as inspiration on my 'diet from hell' which starts next week.  If anything can give you reason not to eat chocolate, it's her.  Though apparently she does. Yeah, course.

Oasis New Years Eve Dress

I've been on the hunt for a New Years Eve party dress, and have finally found one.  I'm going to some friends of ours, tricky party to dress for as it's at a house, mixed age range and I also apparently need to look 'alright' as lots of my boyfriend's friends are there.

As much as he would never say it, boys want their girls to look good at these things... That's my theory anyway.  I also feel MASSIVE after eating a billion mince pies and eating pudding and rum sauce for breakfast for the last week, oops.  This dress from Oasis is perfect, and now only £40.

Metallic dresses are everywhere, and the shift-type style are my favourites - above are Taylor Swift and Kylie Jenner (never, ever, thought I'd post a picture of her) wearing a similar (find a bow belt) piece by Contrarian.

Slightly Blair Waldorf with a touch of prude about it without looking Bridget-Jones ish.  What I mean is; it's got just enough flesh to remind people you are female, without revealing your Spanx pants or upsetting the grandparents.  It's also a great base for an accessory overload - meaning you can wear it differently a number of times.... Sound investment.  Buy it here.

[Trend] Dorothy Perkins Collarless Coats

I have a minor obsession with collarless coats at the moment.  I have one, thanks to a very generous friend - she was moving to Hong Kong and decided she wouldn't need it anymore.  I have lived in it ever since.  I found some similars in the sales at Dorothy Perkins and thought I would share:

Think they look so stylish, and in this weather it means you can pile on a scarf around your neck without it looking totally ridiculous.  There is not enough space between my chest and chin for a collar AND a scarf.  Maybe that's because of the vast amount of food I've been consuming at work in the run up to Christmas...

Love these so much, love the pop of colour too - we need brightening up now Christmas is over.  Really impressed with Dorothy Perkins this year - their stuff has been fab.  Went off them for a while, but they've had a big overhaul and I bought loads from them this year.  Go Dotty Ps!

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen

These two gothic fairies prove that simple is best.  Love this pic of them in just a tee and jeans.  Simple style, simple chic.  To get the look, I love Vince and their tees.  I'll do a post on how to wear this look without looking dull ASAP, but as a taster let the Olsens give you some ideas...

[Essential] White Denims

I've been banging on about owning a pair of white jeans for ages, I love them.  I think women panic about looking large in them - but it's all about the style you wear, not the concept.  For me, no 'look' says expensive like a well fitted pair of white jeans and heels.  They are a blank canvas for you to dress up, dress down and never fail to look impressive.

Or, with flats at the weekend.  Elizabeth Hurley once said, 'a woman can be transformed by a pair of white denims and a few squats.' Amen sister, amen.  Love the whole white-jean-denim-shirt-blazer look - definitely worth holding off the potatoes for.  Oooh and white jeans with a breton top.

White denim always stays in style, whereas the blue shades of jean go in and out.  Arguably, a pair of whites will last you longer.  Understand that if you have a little one (be that a child, or a puppy in my case) that they aren't always ideal, but for those precious moments without them - they are perfect.  I've worn mine to death - going to have to buy another pair next year.

I did a post last year which helps you find the right jean style for you here but essentially have a look at this - great website to help you find styles to suit your shape.  As you can see from the piccies, it isn't necessarily the age old 'boot cut for fatties, skinnies for skinnies' - you can make styles work.  None of that muffin top though girls, come on, a size up won't hurt.

One tip I was given though is never put loose fitting tops with loose fitting bottoms, or the same with tight top and tight bottoms.  One or the other... Does that make sense?  I'm waffling a little!

My favourite places for jeans are:

Topshop - classic and under £50
J Brand - totally perfect, buy a size up
Oasis - surprising for some, but their Denim Director is ex Diesel
Whistles - they do really good classic shaped jeans

DKNY Cape at NetaPorter

My favourite AW/FW11 show was DKNY - classic tailoring with a little bit of wow factor thrown in.  Their outerwear was just to die for, and now it's gone into sale.  Cannot believe this cape (below) hasn't sold out already - good old NetAPorter for saving the day.

It's down from £455 to £225, which in the grand scheme of things isn't bad.  You'd pay £150 easily for a high street coat, and this one is a classic designer number.  Have a look here on the NetAPorter website.

Although styled as a nautical piece here, you really can wear a cape all the time - I have one a friend got for me at a vintage fair, and live in it.  In fact I don't, my sister does - she stole it to go to Paris and I haven't seen it since.  And she's very particular with her clothes so I took it as a massive compliment...

I found some pics to help you see how to style it, to prove you really can't live without a cape.  Tried to find a picture of Rhian in mine, but she hasn't put one on her blog yet - will pressure her to do so...

Little Red Dress Hunting

Ever since I've spied this picture on pinterest I've wanted a little red dress.  I've had a little hunt on to find a suitable one - red is such a hard colour to buy as it can easily look cheap.  (HOW Erdem managed to make red lace look expensive I will never know, as an example).  I want lipstick red, deep red - none of this 'could be a bra from La Senza' red.

And I've found it at Jaeger Boutique and it's in the sale!  Reduced from £115 to £65, this really is a bargain.  I have a couple of these dresses now, as my sister has got them for me (thank you) and they are uber flattering and comfortable.  Click here to buy.

Lily and Albert knits

You guys need to know about Lily and Albert, purchasing one of their super big and comfy knits is high on the agenda ahead of my ski trip later in the year.  I'm all about comfort in the winter, and if being comfortable can look good then that's one massive bonus.  Lily and Albert's knits really do hit the spot.

Love a company with a cool story; Lily and Albert were born after their founder (Kathryn) visited Portugal and saw the fisherman's wives knitting cardigans on the beaches.  No two cardigans are ever the same, as they are hand knitted and sourced from the same areas.  I love the big cardigans, and really want to get the boy a fairisle style knit... Not sure I will be able to resist.

Visit them at LilyandAlbert.com - make sure you check out the shawls and blankets, they really are lovely.

Kate Middleton in Ralph Lauren

Finally, Kate in something a little bit different. Yeah ok, it's a roll neck dress (questionable) but with a body like that I'd be in cling flim parading myself down Oxford Street all day, every day.  Quite like this look, it's a bit safe (go on Kate,  show us a bra strap or something, live dangerously - you are TWENTY NINE) but at the end of the day she's going to a homeless shelter.  Hardly the time to bling up...

A classic look, you've got to give it to her. As my grandmother once said, 'if you can't look good, at least look expensive,' and Kate certainly does.  Guessing the boots are LK Bennett, if not, they'll do very similar ones.  This dress is by Ralph Lauren (hooray, an American label for a change) and is £350.  Unless you are an XL or XXL you can't get it anymore - and if you are, with all due respect I'd have a think before buying it.

Day by Malene Birger Knit

I've been naughty, oops.  I went shopping today (now yesterday) to buy the remainder of my Christmas presents, and accidently bought a jumper.  Not just any jumper though, THIS jumper.  I'm not the biggest fan of House of Fraser but the one in Westfield is really well stocked - and Day by Malene Birger is right next to Whistles - perfect combination.

I spied this jumper when I met my friend Natalie for lunch, and then went later on in the day with my sister Rhian and decided it really was worth the investment.  It's grey, it's embellished and it's half price.  I got it a size up too so that it will be really baggy.  It is super warm too, I'm sweltering here.  I'm not going to be telling the boyfriend... Hopefully he is lying when he says he reads this every day!  What do you think? Worthy investment? If you like it, buy it here.
