Look for SS11: Pleats

Versus SS11/Telegraph

I've just had a walk around duty free at Heathrow and something became very apparent, the world has gone pleating mad.  Starting with the old-school school skirts from last year - pleats are back.  And as if it could never happen, they've got really sexy.  No risk of looking like you are off to parents' evening - it looks good!

French Connection have produced a front runner. This dress is stunning, I love it.  I spied it in store today and can't stop thinking about it.  In fact, I can actually see someone buying it now... Argh.  I'm saving myself for NYC, I'm saving myself for NYC, I'm saving myself for NYC... Anyway, it's got something almost Blake Lively about it, and you could team it with last years sandals - and a skinny belt.  Ooh and a floppy hat, and a sun tan, and a holiday... Ah I want it but at £125 I need an excuse and I have all of my outfits planned for the next forever.  If you are a friend of mine, do me a favour and get engaged - I need a new dress for a wedding.

Girly pleats were all over Chloe and Miu Miu's collections, with Christopher Kane not far behind.  Chloe stuck to it's infamous neatral palette whereas Miu Miu has gone whole-hog into it and added to the Bright Revolution. Pop onto net-a-porter and you can easily spend £100s on the trend - Chloe dresses come in at £700+.  I've done my best to find you a few non-bankruptcy options.  I've already told you about the Whistles Carrie Pleast skirt, but I'll use this post as an excuse to let it loose again:

It's like a Miu Miu/Jil Sander combo sprayed over with loveliness.  I'm infatuated with mine, which I managed to pick up in yellow/lemon thanks to my friend who picked up on my enthusiasm through the 250 emails I sent her.  Ah I love it so much I'd sleep in it if I could.  I also love this fairytale-esque number from Urban Outfitters, which is unusual for me as I'm usually far too 'clean' for their stuff (I have an undeniable fear of vintage type shops, despite working over the road from Beyond Retro).  It's lovely, and only 42 quid.  Sold.

Everyone is wearing the Zara leather pleated skirt, it's getting a bit annoying - but they hve just brought a far more summer friendly version, below.  Great for office wear and very versatile.  Comes in a billion colours too, as everything does with Zara.

For another work friendly number, check out the good old guys at Topshop who have triumphed again in finding not only a work skirt that's quite nice - but one that reminds me of Dirty Dancing and I'm sure would have everyone singing 'I've had the time of my life' around their bedrooms... It's £38, so it's allowed.

This post could go on FOREVER, there are so many pleats around.  I've seen some really nice jackets with pleats incorporated into them - if you know where they are from please email me!

Pleats are great but for someone like me with fatter than average calves, the longer style doesn't work so well - I need me a pleat that stops above the knee...

I love pleats! They'll definitely be a new staple for my summer wardrobe.
