Look for SS11: Brights - White

'But white is not a colour' I hear you scream!  Well look at Alexander Wang, below, he doesn’t seem to agree…

There really is nothing fresher than white.  It makes a huge statement, particularly in monochromatic ensembles. And that was exactly what was happening at a number of spring shows. Max Azria showed a number of all-white looks it featured more prominently than any other color in the show, as did Stella McCartney and Calvin Klein.

Look at fellow blogger That's Chic, demonstrating what white does best - highlight tailoring! Also, check out Kirsten Dunst in Miu Miu and Kate Bosworth in Chloe, below to get some inspiration.

If you can afford it, no one can pull off white better than Calvin Klien.  If you were however going to buy one white piece, for me, there really isn't anything that makes an outfit stand out more than a white Tuxedo jacket.  I bought mine from a vintage store (ok, that's a lie, a friend bought mine at a vintage store and I stole it) a few years ago and absolutely love it.  Reiss' tailoring trumps the lot of them.  Here is this season's piece, the Josie:

The best statement piece I have found is over with the guys at Zara, below. At £49, it's a great buy - and one you can wear to death at work, play and any weather.  Perhaps team with some leather trousers and go all out?!

Also, Zara have a great dress have combines white with block colour for a bargainious £35.99 - which I love (and might well have bought by the time you read this):

Or, to go further with the 70s inspired look - have a glance at these custom made bad boys from the US.  Jeffrey Hiller is becoming better and better.  Though I'm not sure they would be all that great for the coffee run, you'd look amazing.  Every cloud has $155 lining...

Wear with an all-black outfit - or a least all dark.  Saying that, can see these looking great with black trousers and a plain tee.
